Restructuring Part 3: Recaps

22 May

When Chris and Jim leap off a racing horse to wrestle a steer to the ground, they don’t let go of that steer for anything. Similarly, when they manage to lasso a guest with an interesting and topical subject, they hold on for dear life.

Bernie Carrico, Senior Managing Director at White Rock Advisors (whiterockadvisors.com) returns to the show to conclude the discussion of debt-driven restructurings. Bernie advocates being a smart negotiator even in tough times. But the boys weren’t born yesterday: they recognize this as an attempt to negotiate for his freedom. Nice try Bernie!

Aw shucks, but he was awful nice to chat with us for so long. Maybe we will let him go – thanks Bernie! And watch to the end for our parting shot…

Restructuring

08 Apr

The boys managed to rope an esteemed guest and bring him back to the ranch. Can they get him to stay long enough to engage in conversation? Or will he run off as soon as he can, like a wild stallion seeking the freedom of wide open spaces?

Bernie Carrico is a Senior Managing Director at White Rock Advisors in Dallas. He has been a banker, a corporate executive and an investor. And we are pleased to have him on the show. Howdy and welcome!

The idea is to talk about that bugaboo of business: debt restructuring. Are you spooked yet? Do you want to just buck those bankers off your back and run for the hills? Bernie and the boys will try to calm you down and show you that life can go on with bankers on your saddle. Just let’em know where you’re headed and make sure they don’t get too fat and happy.

Foreign Direct Investment

10 Mar

Chris struggles to get going in today’s episode. Like the surging tidal wave of cross-border investment, however (and with Jim’s helpful gravitational pull), the boys eventually get into an interesting conversation about how to put your hard-earned money in the hands of ferners.

What’s a “ferner” you say? Well, in these parts it just means somebody who’s not from Texas. For everyone else, it just means.. Well, let’s just turn to the 17th century French philosopher and mathematician, Blaise Pascal (Pensées 294):

“Three degrees of latitude reverse all jurisprudence; a meridian decides the truth. Fundamental laws change after a few years of possession; right has its epochs; the entry of Saturn into the Lion marks to us the origin of such and such a crime. A strange justice that is bounded by a river! Truth on this side of the Pyrenees, error on the other side.”

Ya’ ain’t in Kansas anymore, buckaroos, that’s for sure! (No offense to the Kantians in the crowd)
